About Salaar Movie

Salaar: Part 1-Ceasefire, also known as Commander: Part 1-Ceasefire, is an epic action thriller film in the Telugu language that was released in 2023. It was produced by Vijay Kiragandur and written and directed by Prashanth Neel. Alongside an ensemble cast that includes Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu, Bobby Simha, Sriya Reddy, Ramachandra Raju, John Vijay, Tinnu Anand, Devaraj, Brahmaji, Mime Gopi, and Easwari Rao, Prabhas plays the film’s title role. 

The film centers on the friendship between Varadha (Prithviraj), the present prince of Khansaar, and Deva (Prabhas), the exiled prince of Khansaar, in the fictitious dystopian city-state where royalty still endures. Varadha enlists Deva’s assistance to take Khansaar’s throne from his father’s ministers and relatives as they plot a coup.

The first half of a two-part movie, the film’s plot was inspired by Prashanth Neel’s debut film Ugramm (2014)[5]. The official title Salaar was first revealed in December 2020; however, Salaar: Part 1-Ceasefire was revealed as the official title in July 2023. The main shooting started in January 2021 and continued intermittently for about three years, covering multiple legs, until it concluded in late 2023. Telangana, Italy, and Budapest were among the filming sites. 

The pandemic, VFX delays, and reshoots all contributed to production issues that repeatedly pushed back Salaar’s release date. Ravi Basrur wrote the soundtrack, Bhuvan Gowda handled the cinematography, while Ujwal Kulkarni handled the editing.

The realistic portrayal of a modern-day monarchy, Neel’s direction, story, world-building, characterization, cast performances, action sequences, music, background scores, cinematography, technical aspects, and reviews from critics were largely positive when Salaar was released in theaters on December 22, 2023 in both standard and IMAX formats. With a ₹700 crore box office receipt on a ₹270 crore budget, it was a commercial success and became the highest-grossing Telugu movie of 2023, the fourth highest-grossing Telugu movie ever, the fifth highest-grossing South Indian movie ever, the fourth highest-grossing Indian movie of 2023, and the twelfth highest-grossing Indian movie ever.
